Deals of the Week 25/04/16

Hello and welcome to deals of the week, where we bring you the finest deals from Steam Weeklong Deals, Bundle Stars and Humble Bundle!

Steam Weeklong Deals

With 275 products on offer this week, there’s certainly a lot of choice, but only a few things caught my eye. First up, the entire Painkiller collection is on sale, with various discounts depending on the game. If you haven’t played any of these first person demonic shooters then I suggest Painkiller: Black Edition (-75%, £2.24), which is the first game in the series. I have had a lot of fun with this game, having it on disc back in the day. It’s from 2004, so the graphics aren’t up to GTA V standards, but all you really need to know is this: there is a gun that shoots tree trunks and there is another gun that shoots shurikens AND lightning. ‘Nuff said. If you’re still on the fence there is a great Zero Punctuation review on Youtube that captures the incredible insanity perfectly!

Next up, in a more gentle vein, I give you the minimalistic puzzler Hook (-10%, £0.71). It’s calm and tranquil, building up in difficulty to such elegant complexity, yet still oddly simple. Hook reminds me of pick up sticks, where you have to withdrawn lines in the right order to complete the puzzle. It’s not a very long game, but it certainly delivers for the small asking price.

Finally, we have Blitzkrieg Anthology (-10%, £3.59), which is a WWII era RTS game that places heavy focus on historical accuracy, realism and fiendish strategy. It’s another older title, dating from 2003, but the gameplay is still solid and it gets the official seal of approval from our resident strategy expert for being hardcore yet lots of fun!

Humble Bundle

Humble Bundle have two active bundles at the moment, the first being the Humble Telltale Games Bundle. I covered that bundle last week, so you can check here for the details and new games Jurassic Park: The Game and Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People: Season 1 have been added at the pay more than the average (currently $8.26) level. There is under 1 day left to grab this bundle so hurry if you want in!

A new bundle this week is the Humble Devolver Digital Bundle which contains up to 8 games from this publisher, with more to be added. Pay what you want for A Fistful of Gun, RONIN and Gods Will Be Watching and pay more than the average (currently $4.82) to also get NOT A HERO, Shadow Warrior Special Edition and a voucher for 50% off The Talos Principle. The top pay level for this bundle is $10 which will add Titan Souls and bird dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star.

Bundle Stars

This week, I’m taking a break from the bundles and I have selected three of the sweetest single game deals that I can find!

First up is a great offer for car football game Rocket League, offering 40% off the list price asking just £8.99. Rocket League is one of these games that is just the fun kind of crazy, pitting up to 8 players against each other in teams of up to 4 player aside for the sole purpose of guiding a proportionately massive ball into the other team’s goal. You can drive up the walls, activate boosts for insane speeds and customise your cars to the max with a good variety of options built in and other options (including a Delorian!) available as reasonably priced DLC. Tomorrow (April 26th), the new Hoops mode will become available as a free update which promises to add extra basketball shaped insanity to an already fast paced game, that is almost as much fun to watch as it is to play.

Next up, be the Bat in Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition (-75%, £3.74). Arkham Knight got slammed and rightly so, it was a broken, buggy mess. This game, however, is pretty much pure gold offering adventuring mayhem as everyone’s favourite pointy eared psychopath. In addition to laying the smack down on swathes of the Joker’s henchmen, you can also brood on gargoyles whilst your special bat senses help you find the path to the next objective. Atmospheric to the max and genuinely creepy in places, this casting call of many of Batman’s most famous enemies is a great addition to any Steam library.

Finally for this week, I’m feeling a little old school, so I bring you Evil Genius (-66%, £4.72)! A cartoon styled strategy game featuring base building mechanics, Evil Genius lets you be the bad guy by controlling one of three delightfully evil characters lovingly crafted from hilarious tropes. Torture your enemies (or just kill them dead), build traps, recruit minions, steal money, club seals or whatever your evil heart desires as you bid to take over the world and turn it into your evil empire. But don’t forget to distract the tourists visiting your tropical paradise or you may find your cunning traps generate more bodies than you can easily hide…
