Deals of the Week – 04/01/16

Well, it’s a brand new year which means it’s time for Deals of the Week to return after an unintentional hiatus! We’re happy to return to bringing you your usual selection of the finest deals from Steam Weeklong, Humble Bundle and Bundle Stars. On to the deals!

Steam Weeklong

There are 177 games on offer this week, but in the aftermath of the Winter Sale there aren’t many that leap out and demand that I buy them. There is Car Mechanic Simulator 2015 Gold Edition (-55%, £8.54) which I have heard to be strangely compelling and Titan Quest Gold (-80%, £2.99) which in spite of all of the good things I’ve heard about it, I own but haven’t played. Most of the rest is meh, but, if you happen to be a connoisseur of bad games like I am, you can “treat” yourself to both Manhunter and Chernobyl Commando this week. Aren’t we lucky!

Humble Bundle
The main course for Humble Bundle this week is the Humble Square Enix Bundle 3 which contains a good selection of their wares, and will finish on 05/01/15. Pay more than $1 and you can unlock classic Tomb Raider goodness with the first three instalments of Lara’s escapades, as well as The Last Remnant, the highly acclaimed Life is Strange Episode 1 and Murdered: Soul Suspect. Pay more than the average (currently $5.45) fo more goodness, highlights of which include Just Cause 1/2, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Front Mission Evolved and finally pay more than $8.99 for Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris, Hitman Absolution (Elite Edition), Tomb Raider (Reboot, Game of the Year Edition). Oh, and, if you pay the average or above, you can grab a 20% discount code for Just Cause 3 on the Humble Store. We covered this game here and it’s so much fun, here’s another screenshot of the mayhem that awaits!

JC3 big boom deals

The weekly bundle is Rifftrax, which is a selection of videos featuring humorous commentary. Pay what you life for three videos including the Nat Geo Total Riff Off: Demon Bar, pay more than the average of $11.51 for three more films including Plan 9 From Outer Space (in colour!) which is hilarious of its own accord without a riff (for all the wrong reasons) and finally paying more than $12 will also net you Super Mario Bros and Sharknado, both of which need to be seen for the full horror to be fully appreciated! It’s an interesting project and I would love to see the Plan 9 riff as that film is both endearing and god-awful in it’s original form! Finally, there are two book bundles running, one of which features business books with titles like “Got your Attention?: How to Create Intrigue and Connect with Anyone”. The second bundle is a lovely spread of Dr Who audiobooks featuring Doctors old and new such as Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and David Tennant. At the highest pay level ($15) you can also get a Torchwood audiobook and The Worlds of Big Finish.

Bundle Stars
Bundle Stars have recently introduced a tiered pay system for some bundles and a good example of this is the Ultimate Game Makers Bundle, which has four tiers ranging from £2.29 (which includes GameGuru, RPG Maker XP and Axis Game Factory’s AGFPRO v3) to £59.99 which includes the brand new RPG Maker MV and some DLC. Other bundles available this week include the Mighty Big Bundle which includes 14 games of a casual nature such as a 4 in 1 pack of Hidden Object games and Top Trumps Turbo for £1.49 and the Indie Jam Bundle which includes 10 titles across a range of genres for £1.39. There are more bundles to talk about, but I’m having technical problems with the Bundle Stars website crashing both Firefox and Chrome, so hopefully I can get it fixed for next week!

That concludes our look at the deals this week. Please let me know if you see any good deals you think I should mention!
