Linux Part 3: Mummm Minty

So I have tried to fix My Linux but it does not seem to able to be fixed so I am going to try Linux Mint  .Now Mint is based on Linux Ubuntu and Debian so what works on Ubuntu should work on Mint.

I am using Mint this time around as I want to try something different and according to distrowatch it’s the most popular Distro of Linux, now Steam should work on Mint as both it and Ubuntu use the .deb file type as I am going to be using 64bit Mint there may be a few things that I need to do before I can put Steam on.
I got the Install of Mint from the mint website I am using Mint 15 with the Cinnamon desktop.
The install was put on a Flash Drive after putting it on a DVD didn’t work and apparently my motherboard does not support booting from a USB Flash Drive so it was back to the DVD method then after swapping my DVD-R drive for a spare one to burn the disk on and the Installer  now worked instantly with no problems.I found the installer from Mint to be just as good as the Ubuntu one I had a moment of nearly epic  brain fail though when choosing what Hard drive to tell Mint to install to and Nearly Installed it over my Windows 7 glad I spotted that other wise that would have been embarrassing.

Now one of things I forgot to take into account is the Grub, the thing that lets you choose what OS you want at start-up was on the Drive with the old Linux on it and as I have installed a new version of Linux  and formatted the drive the grub has stopped working as this out of my skill level for Linux, I was for want of better word stuck fortunately this months Linux Format had a Grub tutorial I used this to help me fix it.Once that was sorted and a check was done on windows 7 to see if it still worked and thankfully it still did it was time to test Mint worked and it does

Now it does seem that I am having problems with my mouse again so that will need to be fixed and then it’s onto the Steam Install but their both for next time. In the next Part it’s Steam Installing time  and everything that goes with it.

As usual comments are welcome
